IS THAT A TOURIST YOU'RE PACKING?


Even though Bali has just made changes to its criminal code banning sex outside of marriage, the governor was quick to add that the embargo poses no risk to tourists, an announcement which I am sure has many sex traffickers and carnally charged globetrotters breathing a sigh of relief. Over 40% of Indonesia's trafficking victims are said to be aged 14-17 and experts believe that the number of children being exploited in the country is much higher due to under-reporting. Even though human trafficking is a serious crime in Indonesia, offenders spend an average of three years in prison according to the head of Bali’s Women’s Legal Aid, Ni Luh Putu Nilawati.
 
Is it just me or does the punishment not seem to fit the crime?
 
Canada should talk. 
 
In the fall of 2020, a Canadian judge sentenced prairie mother and housewife, Helen Naslund to 18 years in prison for killing her husband after decades of torture and abuse.
